I noticed that all the primary key are UniqueIdentifier. I would prefer to use Int. Is there a reason to using a UniqueIdentifier over an Int? Is it for future scalability where data might be transfer to different database?

Hello,
I downloaded this version of LitwareHR. The end point address used in this SC is https://data.sitka.microsoft.com/soap/v1. This is not working. I used the sitka credentials in web.config. Tried the endpoint address : https://data.database.windows.net/soap/v1. This didn't work as well.
To make the LitwareHR work on my local machine, what are the steps?
To make it work on the local machine, which end point address is to be used?

Hi Gerardog,

I’m sorry I wasn’t able to reply sooner, I was so busy on my end (fixing my own non ending problems).

But what I did was:

· The Certificate used to secure the service should be exported as (.pfx) and imported into other machines you’re planning to deploy on.

· I’ve written methods to serialize and deserialize the SAML tokens in order to be able to store in the session object (since I’m using SQL for sessions in order to let the NLB work)

I am having the same scenario using a custom STS in a NLB, WCF services layer on another NLB, and web apps also in NLB.

Thank you for providing such a sample. I'm trying to learn more about the architecture and the application itself. Everything hosted on skyscrapr.net seems to be dead. I can't download any documentation, webcasts, or labs.

Is there an alternative site where I can get them from ?

(Note from SDS documentation: SDS supports application/x-ssds+xml content type for storing all Flexible Entities (all entities except blob entities). When you specify queries in the browser, the browser needs to be aware of this content type. For additional information, see Guidelines and Limitations. See this: http://dunnry.com/blog/RenderingPOXForSSDSInInternetExplorer.aspx or simply install SDS SDK that will do this for you)

You can now run the “Start Here” again. This will configure everything in the machine (certificates, IIS settings, etc)

Make sure these 3 web.configs have the appropriate SDS credentials, the new SDS address and the security mode (as configured above for the Deployment utility)

C:\litwarehr\bin\LitwareHR.Portfolio.UnSecureHost\web.config

C:\litwarehr\bin\LitwareHR.Portfolio.SecureHost\web.config

C:\litwarehr\bin\LitwareHR.Authorization.SvcHost\web.config

As I mentioned before, I tested these steps in a brand new Win2008 server and it is working fine.

Hi ep,

I have tried the LitwareHR sample several times and still strugglling on installation until now. I did what you've recommended and still got the" no endpoint lisenning error".

would you please just explain how the "Sitka" , what's now SDS, maps to the credentials.

I just can not find the solutionName and the Authority. any how, I got Server Name , my Administrator Username and my password. I'm really sorry about the poor understanding about this . when I get started I will write a guide for this to allow the follewings work better.

Just wanted to let you guys know that we have recently published a new, more modern sample. Some concepts captrueed in LitwareHR (multi-tenancy, claims based authZ, etc) are demonstrated there too, but with more modern tools and components (Web client is based on MVC, Claims are handled with Geneva Framework, it is integrated with LiveID, etc)

"Sitka" was an old codename for SDS.

UserName maps to solutioName
Password is whatever password you defined in the solution
Authority is the name of the authority you created using the configuration tool (which is launched when you click on "start here" icon on the desktop).

You can optionally run the config tool manually as described in my previous post (LitwareHR.Portfolio.Deployment).

OK, I have some credentials, but I am unable to "map" the naming conventions between the Azure Platform and the Litware application platform.

Azure had me create a "solution", for which they then provided me a password.

However, the Litware "Sitka Configuration" asks for a User Name, Password, and AuthorityID.

I am not able to map the nomenclature between the two platforms, except for password (which of course is not relevant without a user name).

If someone explain to me how to resolve the various naming conventions, I will appreciate it. I will poke around other threads in the meantime. Thanks.

You are not using the right credentials with SDS.

Open a browser, type https://<your authority>.data.database.windows.net/v1/LitwareHR?q=

You will be prompted for username + password. If it works, then make sure the web.config files indicated in the other thread are configured correctly.

No passport (LiveID) is required. Just your SQL Data Services credentials (solution name + password). Could you post your exception?

Ok I changed the transport level but now I get other error, seems related to my credentials... I already have one Azure account working but, what credentials should I provide? My .net passport?

Yes, you need to apply for an account with SDS (SQL Data Services, part of "Azure Platform"). It usually takes <week to get access to it.

And no, they don't require any credit card.

I went ahead and applied for a free account, since I am not inclined to give Microsoft my credit card (they get plenty of money from me already). There appears to be a backlog in such things, so I guess I will put this on hold until I get some "SDS Credentials". Sorry I do not have a better understanding on how all this works....
